Why We Use Horses
Horses, due to their power and size, can be intimidating but what many don't know is horses have an inherent instinct to herd - in better words an instinct to belong. They have unique insight into exactly who we are in the moment. They are gifted reflectors of our true selves because their very survival depends on reading their surroundings appropriately.
Like us, these magical animals have personalities, attitudes, and a variety of moods; what works with one horse might not work with another. Since horses can read and respond to the nonverbal messages we are always sending, they begin to act in ways that feel familiar to other relationships or dynamics in our lives. They become our spouse, partner, colleague, children, dreams, fears, addictions, etc. This gives us a chance to work through those relationships and challenges in a safe and nonjudgmental environment.
